SILCHAR: Taking advantage of the lockdown, a Bangladeshi in a bid to infiltrate through Tesua border point of Karimganj border was detained by BSF on patrol today. He has been identified as Abdul Matin (40), a resident of Biyani Bazar in Sylhet district. He was handed over to Karimganj police for interrogation and necessary legal action. The jawans on vigilance and patrol belong to G Company of 7 Bn.

The police is interrogating Abdul Matin. Bangladesh is under lockdown for the last two months due to Corona pandemic. Shrinking job opportunities in Bangladesh are compelling its citizens to cross over to this side of the border for economic sustenance. A few days back, three Bangladeshis who infiltrated Belonia border of Tripura in search of job were detained at Churaibari check post who are now cooling their heels in Karimganj jail.

Indo-Bangladesh border has been sealed as the Coronavirus continues to spread its fangs in both the countries. Besides, extraordinary precautions have been taken along the border. Abdul Matin is alone or some others have also infiltrated, police is looking into it. After the coming to power of BJP led government at Dispur, influx of Bangladeshis has slid significantly.
