KOKRAJHAR: Bank Colony Recreation Centre, (BCRC) Kokrajhar, a leading socio-cultural organization of Kokrajhar, organized a three-day programme to celebrate the 162nd birth anniversary of Kaviguru Rabindranath, which concluded here recently.
The first day of the celebration with ‘Kavi Pranam’ programme. The members of the Recreation Centre paid tribute to the Viswakavi by garlanding his statue and portrait and paying floral tributes in the premises of BCRC.
On May 13, Rabindra poem recitation competition was held among the school students of Kokrajhar town. In the evening, inter-school Rabindra Quiz 2023 was held. The competition was anchored by Biplab Sharma.
Sister Margaret Nobel English Medium High School, Kokrajhar came out as champion while Bimala Prasad Chaliha Memorial Babyland English Medium School became the first runners-up team and DN Himmatsinka High School, Kokrajhar became the second runners-up team.
The evening programme was followed by colourful cultural programme with presentation of Rabindra Sangeet, Rabindra dance and dance drama performed by the local artistes of Kokrajhar.
On the concluding day on May 14, a drawing competition was held among school students. About 200 students participated in the competition. Rabindra Sangeet competition was held among the school students during afternoon hours. The programme in the evening hours started with the prize distribution ceremony.
MLA of Kokrajhar East, Lawrence Islary graced the concluding ceremony as the chief guest in the evening while Pratibha Brahma, the chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB), attended the programme as the guest of honour. The cultural secretary of the Recreation Centre, Ranjit Sur and the senior member of the organization Mihir Kumar Modak welcomed the distinguished guests.
The chief guest and the guest of honour distributed the prizes to the winners of different categories of competitions.
The vice-chairman of the organization, Gunasindhu Das Talukdar gave a brief speech on the occasion. BCRC general secretary Chiranjit Das emphasized the importance of cultural exchanges among different communities as per philosophy of the Viswakavi.
The guest of honour, Pratibha Brahma said the thoughts of Kaviguru on women power have been a great inspiration.
Chief guest Lawrence Islary in his deliberation in Bengali explained the importance of the famous Rabindra Sangeet ‘Jodi Tor Dak Shune Keu Na Ase Tobe Ekla Chalo Re’. He also shared his experience of the Bangladesh tour where he found the people of that country equally respected and showed their love for the poets.
The main attraction of the cultural programme of the evening was a song and dance programme, titled as ‘Puja O Prakriti Bhabnay Rabindranath’- performed by the students of Kokrajhar Music College and another song and dance compilation ‘Barsha Mangal’, performed by the artistes of B.C.R.C and directed by Moumita Bhowmik Das, musicians, participants and the large numbers of spectators.
