Barpeta Xatra in the grip of flood

BARPETA: The flood situation in Barpeta is still grim. The rising water of Haarijan has flooded Barpeta town area including the Barpeta Xatra. The flood water has submerged the main town areas of Barpeta. The flood has also inundated Sundaridiya Xatra, Rakhal Than, Baradi Xatra. Barpeta Xatra management committee stated the Xatra will remain closed for the viewers.

People of the town have taken shelter in schools and other higher places. On the other hand, Barpeta- Doulashal- Hajo road at Baradi and Keotkuchi main road is also under floodwaters. The SDRF team have been engaged in rescue operations of the flood-affected areas. The bridge approach of Barpeta- Mandia road has also been damaged due to which the communication of that road was disrupted. Under Kalgachiya revenue circle at Titapani Rampur, one Moran Ali (12), son of Gajibar Rahman died due to flood. Again one Kashinath Kalita (55) of Sagalchari village under Sarthebari revenue circle has also died. The people of Barpeta are suffering due to the release of Kurishu River water. Areas like Dakshinhati, Bilortari Hati and other areas of the town are also under water.
