Barry O’Brien conducts open quiz at ProGyan 2.0 in Tezpur

Tezpur: Ace quizmaster Barry O’Brien, in his own inimitable play with words and facts, conducted an open quiz at Tezpur University recently as part of ProGyan 2.0, the manifest – a knowledge festival organized with exclusive support of petroleum exploration giant, Oil India Limited that saw keen contest amongst 106 teams registering from across the region and beyond.

The two-day festival kicked off with an inter-institutional debate on the topic ‘Gandhiji’s Ramrajya can be accomplished through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. On March 1, Barry O’Brien was in full flow at the packed Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Auditorium. With the master himself singing and humming songs as questions, the crowd went delirious as he urged all to start swaying and dancing at the audio rounds. After a steady flip-flop of positions, the top spot was claimed by the brothers Sudarshan and Sandipan Goswami to earn Rs 40,000, besides a glittering trophy. The first runners-up had a doctor of Defence Forces, Dr. S Bhattacharyya teaming up with Kunal Malhorta to claim Rs 30,000. The second runners-up were the team of Kaushik Borthakur and Debasish Basistha which won Rs 20,000.

Earlier on the first day during the inter-institution debate, the team from Cotton University consisting of Jagya Pratim Saikia and Tridip Bhagwaty has adjudged the Best Team, followed by Handique Girls’ College represented by Atlanta Madhukalpa and Kasturi Chutia.

The second day of ProGyan 2.0 had a school quiz conducted by quizmaster Ashutosh Das, where St Joseph’s Convent, Tezpur represented by Aditee Saikia and Dibyaa Drona Sarma stood first, beating St Robert’s School, Jakhlabandha, comprising of Arpan Goswami and Spandan Kashyap. The third position went to Mriganka Deka and Snehal Shreyam Gogoi from Army Public School, Tezpur. The quiz had a total of 28 school teams from all over the region.

Progyan 2.0 had Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and 150 years of the Mahatma as key themes as declared by the chairperson of ProGyan, Dr. Tridib R. Sarma on the first day. Keeping that in mind, the debate and both quizzes were oriented towards that direction, which helped to further spread these messages amongst the youth, and this is the primary focus of the knowledge festival which is being held for a second time at Tezpur University.
