MANGALDAI, Sept 28: In times when raising of unplanned commercial structures in Mangaldai town has been a matter of concern for the conscious circle of the town, violation of section 223/68 of the Municipal Act, 1956 by a section of big commercial establishments has been reported.
Taking a serious note of this, the Mangaldai Municipality Board served show cause notice to the complex owner of a corporate retail shopping mall on Thursday - the day of its inauguration. The authority of the shopping mall ‘Bazar India’, located in the busy LNB road of the town, started its commercial transactions from Thursday without obtaining a valid trade license from the Municipal authority, thereby violating section 223/ 68 of the Assam Municipal Act, 1956. In this connection, the municipal authority has served show cause notice (MMB/2018/7591) to Panchanan Sarma, the owner of the multi-storey complex asking him to reply within next seven days why action would not be initiated against the commercial establishment.
This incident has passed a strong message to the big business houses, including medical labs and imaging centres, which often have the tendency of violating the different relevant provisions of the Municipal Act and Building Rules among others. This is the first such incident of preliminary action against a mega commercial establishment in the recent history of the elected civic body.
