GUWAHATI: Dr. Amal Chandra Kataki is the Director of the Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), and he presented copies of his books to the President of India on October 14 during her visit to Assam. The list of books includes his autobiography entitled 'Silent Contemplation …awakening the inner protagonist', and two textbooks namely 'Principles and Practice of Oncology' and 'Triple C In Cancer'.

Dr. Kataki's autobiography was released earlier by Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, the Governor of Assam and Nagaland in Raj Bhawan on October 12. It depicts the journey of a young boy who becomes a doctor and went on to become the longest-serving Director of a premier medical institution. It also bears proof of his struggles to make BBCI one of the best medical institutions with state-of-the-art equipment, education for budding and practice for expert oncologists, and a ray of hope for patients.

It also has several snippets that bear proof of his passion and vision for development in the medical sector. It shows him as an efficient hospital administrator who enabled the smooth sailing of the institution. His interactions with the media, NGO's, and other institutions and organizations towards better healthcare during this long period have also been depicted in his autobiography.

Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary has written a foreword for this book. He writes "Adversities are great educators for the agonists who do not cease the journey but carry on and on with hope to find the pot of gold at the end of the day. Work is worship through body and mind. Silent Contemplation awakening the inner protagonist is an appropriate name for this memoir full of small things with big purpose, office intrigues with selfish motives, and challenges that needed his constant attention".

Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute is a Unit of the Tata Memorial Center and is one of the best institutions for oncology research as well as treatment in Northeast India.

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day was also organized at the Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute located in Guwahati on October 8. This is an annual unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world.
