DOOMDOOMA: Chandi Das, who is a BPL (Below Poverty Line) card holder and is a resident of Wood Road in Ward No.10 of the town, set an exemplary example in this crisis period of lockdown by helping five poor families of his locality who could not afford to purchase essential commodities for their survival because of the prevailing situation.
Although he himself has to struggle hard to make both ends meet, after witnessing their plight, Chandi Das came forward to help them. Besides giving them the quota of rice that he got against his BPL card, he purchased some other items like dal and salt from the market and distributed it among those five families.
Although Doomdooma Municipal Board (DMB) distributed essential commodities like rice, dal and salt to NFSA card holders on Monday and Tuesday, many poor families in the Ward No. 10 were reportedly left out. Although there is the Central Government scheme to give Rs 1,000 to maximum 1,000 non-NFSA card holders in all the 10 wards of the Doomdooma Municipality, it is evident that by such measure only 100 non-NFSA card holders will be the beneficiaries in each ward of the town and a large number of such poor people will be left out.
