Bhaben Baruah Award, 2021 to be conferred on Nipon Goswami

NALBARI: Veteran actor of the Assamese film industry, Nipon Goswami has been selected for the prestigious Bhaben Baruah Award, 2021 by the Nalbari unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP). The district committee announced this on Tuesday. Nipon Goswami debuted in the Assamese film industry as a child artist in the movie Piyali Phukan, directed by Phani Sarma in 1957. As a lead actor, Sangram was his first Assamese film and a hit movie. His next movie Dr Bezbaruah released in 1969 and it brought him recognition. He also acted in few Hindi movies as a character actor. He has been actively involved in mobile theatres, notably Abaahan, Kohinoor, Hengul and Shakuntala. He also appeared in few TV serials. This award comprises cash Rs 10,000, a seleng sador, japi, xarai, a souvenir of AJYCP and a citation. "Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 13th Bhaben Baruah Memorial All Assam Children Drama Competition has been cancelled and the award will be conferred on September 5 at Guwahati Press Club," said Partha Pratim Sarma, the president.
