NAGAON: The Congress party icon Rahul Gandhi finally adjourned his scheduled visit to Batadroba Than on Monday after police stopped his rally at Haibargaon town outpost. It is pertinent to mention here that as part of his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ across the nation, the Congress leader was scheduled to visit Batadroba Than, the historic birth place of the great Vashnavite Saint Srimanta Sankardeva on Monday. The Batadroba Than Management Committee on Sunday restricted his entry to the than before 3pm due to the ceremonial programme of ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of Sri Ram temple at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

As per programme schedule of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the Congress party icon Rahul Gandhi went with a large rally towards Batadroba Than early this morning. But when the rally reached Haibargaon, he was stopped by Nagaon police and restricted Gandhi and other participants to visit the historic Batadroba Than. Having no other option, the Congress leader finally adjourned his scheduled visit to Batadroba Than and changed his route towards Jagiroad in Morigaon.

Following the cancellation of Gandhi’s trip to Batadroba Than, local Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and local Batadroba MLA Sibamoni Bora rushed to Batadroba Than where MP Gogoi strongly criticized the Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserting that Sarma tainted the history as well as its centuries long traditions of the historic Batadroba Than. He alleged that Sarma worked against the tradition and culture of the historic Batadroba Than.
