Bhutan’s Truck Driver Killed in an Accident in Tamulpur

TAMULPUR: Rash driving on the India-Bhutan connecting road is something that the local people have been complaining since a very long time and the death of a driver on the same road on Sunday.

A Bhutanese citizen perished in an accident on the road that connects Bhutan and India near Tamulpur in Assam. The deceased had been identified as one Tisley T Choten of Bhutan. He was driving a coal-laden truck and was around 33 years old when the incident took place

According to local sources, the accident took place at the 9-mile locality on the highway. The coal-laden truck collided with a dumper, leading to the death of the truck driver.

Apparently, three coal-laden trucks were parked in the 9-mile area of the road. The vehicles numbered BP-2-B0271, BP-2-B0797 and BP-2-B0164 were parked on the side od the road. At the same time, a dumper carrying construction materials bearing registration number AS 25 DC 5518 was hit by coal-carrying at a very high speed from behind. This led to the death of the driver of the truck on the spot.

The state of Assam has seen a decline in the number of cases of road accidents in the last two years according to the traffic branch of Assam Police. According to the records revealed by the traffic department, a total of 1236 cases of accidents were registered in the first two months of the current year. Out of them, 332 had led to fatalities in the Kamrup Metropolitan district and 102 in the month of February alone in Guwahati city.

In the previous year, a total of 7023 accident cases were registered in Assam out of which 2994 resulted in fatalities. The city of Guwahati had seen a total of 760 including a total of 253 fatalities. An official with the Traffic Police mentioned, ”we have seen a decrease in the number of accidents since 2021. Increased awareness about road safety is a crucial reason for the decrease in this number in recent times.”
