GAURISAGAR: "Autobiography is an asset. Assamese people do not write autobiographies but in USA, amongst one lakh people, 4,000 people write autobiography. Amongst Assamese people, apart from Lakshminath Bezbarua, Padmanath Gohain Baruah and Homen Borgohain, autobiography is rare." This was stated by noted educationist and cultural researcher Dr Anil Saikia on Sunday.
Attending the open session of the two-day 3rd biennial conference of Gaurisagar Senior Citizens' Sanmilan (GSCS) held at Gaurisagar Higher Secondary Industrial Institute (GHII) as an appointed speaker, Dr Saikia also urged the senior citizens to write autobiographies for the greater interest of the future generation. The open session was presided over by Rikheswar Buragohain, president of GSCS, while Deben Baruah, president of Sivasagar Zila Jestha Nagarik Sanmilan, inagurated the meeting.
In the meeting, the souvenir Sanjivani, edited by Thanu Bharali, was unveiled by Muhi Kanta Nath, former Principal, Gaurisagar Junior College. Earlier, a total of 19 senior citizens of Gaurisagar and its adjacent areas were felicitated in the meeting. On the other hand, on Saturday a symposium was held. It was inaugurated by Kamaljyoti Gogoi, Inspector of Schools, Sivasagar and Charaideo districts. In the evening, a subject selection meeting was held. The meeting was chaired by Rikheswar Buragohain while Bhuban Neog, Principal of Gaurisagar HSII, inaugurated the meeting.
In the meeting, the new committee of Gaurisagar Senior Citizens Sanmilan was constituted with Muhi Kanta Nath as president, Dr Soneswar Borah as working president,Tarun Gogoi as secretary and Thanu Bharali as assistant secretary.
