Biennial Convention of Tinsukia district AJYCP held at Doomdooma Nagar

TINSUKIA: The three-day 15th biennial convention of Tinsukia district committee of AJYCP got underway at Doomdooma Nagar Playfield from Friday with colourful events.

The programme began with the inauguration of the main stage by Xatradhikar of Hatigarh Mulani Xatra, Chakreshwar Dev Mahanta followed by hoisting of AJYCP flag by Surajit Moran, president Tinsukia district committee, and Smriti tarpan by Kanchan Borah, in-charge general secretary of Tinsukia district committee.

Among others who participated in various programmes were Badan Sarma, former Principal of Doomdooma College, and Santanu Goswami, president of Saikhowa Press Club.

An open cultural Biennial Convention held on Saturday was very impressive with more than 40 cultural troupes displayed their traditional dances in the open field. They later participated in the procession. Saturday’s programme began with a chorus performed by a women group. The prize distribution and open session will be held in the evening with Surajit Moran in the chair and will be graced by a host of dignitaries that include Dr Akhil Ranjan Dutta of Gauhati University, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, AASU general secretary, Arun Jyoti Moran, president of AMSU, and litterateur Dr Reeta Choudhury.
