NAGAON: The All Nagaon District Students’ Union organized ‘Mukoli Bihu’ at Nagaon police reserve playground on Wednesday.

Utpal Sarma, in-charge president of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural speech, the student leader asserted that Nagaon had a glorious history and without the history of the district, the history of Assam and Northeast would remain incomplete. He said that the greater Assamese nation had been formed with all tribes and Scheduled Tribes of the State.

Elaborating on the relation of Bihu with the culture of the region, the student leader also claimed that a nation can be empowered when its base of economy will be strong. “Bihu is the symbol of revolutionary sensibility and in the present crucial hours of the nation, we must become aware of that revolutionary sensibility again,” Sarma said further.

Referring to the medium of learning in governmental schools which is proposed to be initiated by the State Government, Sarma said that the student organization would carry out a massive democratic move against the proposed initiative soon after the Bihu. During the ‘Mukoli Bihu’, the student organization also felicitated some noted senior cultural activists as well as journalists of the district too.
