Bike rally by Udalguri Child Protection Unit to create awareness against human trafficking

Kokrajhar: On the occasion of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, ASTHA NGO, in collaboration with Udalguri district Child Protection Unit, organized a 80 km bike rally in Udalguri to spread awareness and fight against human trafficking from the north-eastern States.

Sources from ASTHA NGO said the mass motorcycle rally started from Udalguri DC office playground where about 60 motorcycle comprising around 140 youths took part. They moved throughout Udalguri district and distributed leaflets, pamphlets and posters with the toll free reporting number CHILDLINE-1098. The aim of the rally was to reach out to more than 20,000 people regarding social evils like child trafficking, child labour, women trafficking and child marriage.

The mass bike rally was flagged off by Assistance Commissioner, Udalguri district, Nilakshi Baishya at the DC office playground. “Spreading awareness on human trafficking is not the final solution but we can minimize the trafficking by spreading awareness to the community. Therefore, let us join hands to stop human trafficking as much as we can,” she said in her speech.

“Human trafficking is a serious crime, a violation of human rights, and thousands of men, women and children are affected by this crime annually. Knowing what it is, the signs, and what to do if you become aware of it is important for the safety of our society. It is our responsibility to spread awareness and save the community people from becoming victims of trafficking,” she added.
