SARUPATHAR: A laudable initiative has been taken by Sarupathar police in Dhansiri subdivision of Golaghat district to appreciate bike riders and pillion riders wearing helmets in a bid to enforce the regulations under the Motor Vehicle Act.

SDPO, Trinayan Bhuyan of Dhansiri subdivision said, "We have launched a programme to reward motorcycle riders who wear helmets. This drive will continue in future. This is part of the government's 'safe drive, save life' initiative."

Those wearing helmets will be rewarded with gift packs of chocolates and pens, and those disobeying the existing law will be fined under the proper section of the law, added the SDPO.
