JORHAT: Bir Lachit Divas was observed at the tomb site of Lachit Barphukan at Hulungapara in Jorhat on Sunday. A public meeting was held which was presided over by Roshni Aparanji Korati, the Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, in presence of Topon Kumar Gogoi, MP of Jorhat, who attended as the chief guest. Dr. Munin Konwar, the Principal of Central College and Tai scholar, and the galaxy of prominent Tai scholars and researchers were present on the occasion at the premises of Hulungapara Lachit Maidam in the city outskirts.
Jorhat MP Tapan Kumar Gogoi lauded the role of Bir Lachit Barphukan under whose leadership the great battle of Saraighat was fought against the Mughal invaders. “We should get inspired by his patriotism and love for his motherland,” he said. The MP also announced the completion of all pending developmental work at the cost of Rs 10 lakh. Earlier, a floral tribute was paid at the tomb of Bir Lachit Barphukan while religious recital in Tai language by Tai organizations was performed. On the other hand, the day was also observed at two other places - at Tai Sab on the bank of the historic Rajmao Pukhuri and also at Dokhin Jorhat Tai Sanskriti and Gobekhona Kendra near Bolia Gohain Pulhuri in Jorhat.
DEMOW: Under the patronage of Nitaipukhuri Kendriya Lachit Udyan Samittee, ATASU, Nitaipukhuri Regional Committee, BAYM, Nitai-Panidehing Regional Committee and in association with the people of Nitai-Panidehing, the Kendriya Lachit Divas was observed in the Kendriya Lachit Udyan premises in Nitaipukhuri near Demow on Sunday. The programme started with a cleanliness drive and after that, the flag was hoisted by Munin Dehingia, president of Lachit Udyan Samittee. The ceremonial lamp in front of the portrait of Bir Lachit Barphukan was lit by Mohammad Omaruddin Ali, a retired teacher. In the evening earthen lamps were lit.
