SIVASAGAR: Bir Lachit Borphukan College celebrated its 39th foundation day recently. Bir Lachit Borphukan College was established by a few intellectuals and social activists of Sivasagar through their generous donation and enthusiastic commitment at Darikapar near DTO Officer, Sivasagar in 1981. Later, the college was shifted to the present location at Namtial Pathar by the side of NH-37 behind the District Jail, Sivasagar.

The celebration started with hoisting of the college flag by Principal Dipali Neog, followed by various other programmes. President of the College Management Committee and renowned scientist Dr. Khageswar Das lit the lamp in memory of the founder Principal of the college, Anandaram Gogoi.

The foundation day celebration also witnessed inauguration of a room constructed by ONGC, which was inaugurated by ONGC’s HR officer. Two wall magazines of the college (one for Education Department and the other for Economics Department) brought out to commemorate the occasion, were released by Sikha Dutta, Vice-Principal of the college.

Speaking on the theme ‘Humanity in the songs of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’, noted lyricist, poet and Simanta Surjya Award winner Luhit Gogoi said, “The true humanity which Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika expressed through his songs, is direly felt today among the masses.” By singing a number of songs of the Sudhakantha, Gogoi urged the students to march towards the path of humanity.
