GAURISAGAR: Bir Lachit Borphukan College, Sivasagar is one of the premier higher educational institutes in Sivasagar district situated at NH-37. It has completed 40 years of its existence.
On the occasion, a ceremonial function was held. Dipali Neog, Principal of the college, chaired it. Kamaljyoti Gogoi, Inspector of Schools, Sivasagar, Dr Khargeswar Das, president, College Managing Committee, Pabitra Pran Bhattacharyya, secretary, Sivasagar Zila Adhi Bidya Parishad, and other dignitaries took part as distinguished guests. Earlier, Dr Simanta Baruah, Associate Professor of the college, explained the objective while Principal Dipali Neog gave a brief note about the history and development scenario of the college.
In the function, a memorial meeting was held in fond memory of the former secretary of the college, Manuranjan Chutia who passed away recently. A commemorative volume Karmayogi written on the life and work of Manuranjan Chutia, edited by Dr Simanta Baruah and Shantanu Buragohain, was unveiled by Pratima Buragohain. She highlighted the contribution of Monuranjan Chutia towards establishment as well as the development of the college. In the meeting, two classrooms were inaugurated by Dr Khageswar Das funded by MP Tapon Kumar Gogoi under MP Area Development fund.
