DOOMDOOMA: The SDO (Civil) office, the Police, and other departments of the sub division are observing the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan, along with the rest of the country, with a week-long programme beginning November 18 at Sadiya. The subdistrict police displayed their band on November 18, followed the next day by an essay competition among school children.

On November 20, plantation of tree saplings and cleaning drives were taken up at various places of the sub division while on Tuesday, a free medical camp was organised at Sadiya public playground jointly by Sadiya civil administration and the health department.

Besides check-up of eye, dental diabetes and blood pressure, the patients were supplied free medicines for which they acknowledged their gratitude to the civil administration, health department and the State government.

JAMUGURIHAT: Tyagbir Hem Baruah College, Jamugurihat celebrated the 400th birth Anniversary of Lachit Barphukan in a fruitful manner on Tuesday. The day-long programme was organized by the Department of History under the collaboration Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of THB College. On the auspicious moment, principal Dr. Ajit Hazarika, Vice Principal Dr. Anju Chhetry, Sumanta Rajbonshi, Dr. Jitu Tamuli shared their views on the significance of Lachit Divas. Bhagat Tati explained the aims and objectives of the meeting. The main attraction of the day-long programme was the documentary displayed by Plavan Bhuyan, HOD, Department of History, T.H.B. College, on Lachit Borphukhan before all students and faculties. Parismita Bora, a student of BA First Semester delivered a speech on Lachit Barphukan while Srijana Chetry recited a poem on Lachit Barphukan. The day-long programme finally came to an end with the vote of thanks extended by Alaka Roy on behalf of the department of History.
