DHUBRI: The 78th birth anniversary of Dr. Pannalal Oswal was celebrated with day-long programmes held under the auspices of Dr. Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee at Sankardev Sishu Bidya Niketan here on Wednesday.
A lively session on traffic rules and also wearing helmets while riding bikes was conducted by a member of memorial committee and an academician, Dhruba Mahato. While addressing the session with power-point presentation, Mahato said that nearly 1.5 lakh people had died in road accidents across the country last year due to ignorance and lack of knowledge of traffic rules. “But we can prevent this accidents and causalities as well if we follow some guidelines of traffic rules and traffic signs and signals. ‘No helmet no petrol’ rule was introduced in Dhubri district by the district administration but it is not being implemented in letter and spirit,” Mahato added.
Speaking in the programme as the chief guest, Dhubri District Transportation Officer (DTO), Dibyajyoti Karjee said that death in road accidents was due to three reasons - riding bike or driving car under the influence of liquor, riding or driving at a very high speed, not wearing helmet.
“Again 50 per cent of total death in road accidents is caused by riding bike or driving car under the influence of liquor. So please take care while walking on the road and follow the rules of road and traffic signals,” Karjee added.
