BISWANATH CHARIALI: In view of the COVID pandemic, Biswanath Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sarmah on Monday instructed the Food & Civil Supplies department to carry out regular inspection drives in the district to ensure that unscrupulous wholesalers and retailers do not indulge in hoarding and price hike of essential commodities.
Chairing a meeting with the Chambers of Commerce of the district and officers of the Food & Civil Supplies department, DC Sarmah took stock of availability of essential commodities in the district.
The Food & Civil Supplies department has been also instructed to fix the rates of essential commodities every month. All wholesalers and retailers have been asked to display stock availability and prices of the commodities visibly in their shops. "We will immediately seal godowns and initiate legal measures if anyone violates the orders of the administration," said Sarmah.
The wholesalers have been asked to ensure that the retailers do not overcharge. The members of Chamber of Commerce have been asked to be vigilant and report to the administration in case they find any businessman indulging in hoarding and price hike.
