GUWAHATI: In a moment of immense pride for the residents of Assam, the charming village of Biswanath Ghat has achieved the prestigious distinction of being named the Best Tourism Village of India for the year 2023 by the Ministry of Tourism. This exceptional recognition was enthusiastically shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who expressed his delight in announcing this remarkable achievement on a social media platform.
In a Twitter post, CM Sarma conveyed, "Happy to share that Biswanath Ghat has been selected as the Best Tourism Village of India 2023 by the Ministry of Tourism." This declaration marked a significant milestone for the tranquil village nestled in the heart of Assam.
The selection process was highly competitive, with Biswanath Ghat emerging victorious from among 791 applications received from 31 different States and Union Territories. This accolade not only reflects the village's unique charm but also highlights the tireless efforts of the Assam government in promoting rural tourism within the region.
Assam's Minister for Tourism, Jayanta Mallabaruah, also took to social media to extend his heartfelt congratulations to Biswanath Ghat. Biswanath Ghat, located just south of Biswanath Chariali Town, holds a unique charm and historical significance that captivate visitors. Often referred to as "Gupta Kashi," the village draws parallels with the ancient city of Kashi during the golden era of the Guptas. At the heart of the village's cultural identity is the Biswanath mandir, after which the town is named. The place's nickname, "Gupta Kashi," pays homage to the golden period of the Guptas.
One of the village's standout features is the cluster of temples dedicated to various deities. Among them, a Siva temple holds a special place, located at the confluence of the Bridhaganga (Burigonga) river with the mighty Brahmaputra.
