Biswanath hosts the first-ever Biswanath Film Festival from August 8 to 12

Guwahati: Biswanath, from Thursday, August 8, is organizing Biswanath Film Festival for the first time ever in the history. Being the home to the famous Bholaguri Tea Estate in Gohpur, where Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwal, for the first time ever, had started shooting for the first Assamese feature film ‘’Joymoti”. Reminiscing the golden days of laying the foundation of Assamese film, some of the film admirers have come up to join hands and organize Biswanath Film festival.

The film festival has kick-started on August 8, Thursday with a four-day programme. The films are to be screened in the Pabhoi Talkies based in Satarupa complex in Biswanath Chariali. As stated by the Biswanath Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Saikia in a press meet, the film festival will witness the screening of 13 films which are produced by the state and have been able to collect laurels for its story and picturization.

The films to be screened in the festival include ‘Maj Rati Keteki’ by Dr. Santana Bordoloi of international fame. Dr. Bordoloi has also attended the opening day of the festival as the Chief Guest. Other films to be displayed in the festival are Anupam Kaushik Borah’s ‘Bornodi Bhotiyai’, Bhaskar Hazarika’s ‘Kothanodi’, Kangkan Deka’s ‘Beautiful Lives’, Deep Choudhury’s ‘Alifa’, Joysingh Joy Dohutia’s ‘Handuk’, Majul Baruah’s ‘Kanin’, Himjyoti Talukdar’s ‘Calendar’, Biswajit Borah’s ‘Phehujali’ and Rima Borah’s ‘Bakul’.

This is to be mentioned here that each of these state-made Assamese films has been able to garner particular acclamation in the international platforms and are widely loved and appreciated for its story, screenplay and other factors. The films to be exhibited in the film festival will also be accompanied by the makers, actors and other related artists. There are provisions made for an interaction of the makers with the audiences. People interested in attending the film festival are provided with a photo identity with a fixed registration fee.
