TANGLA: NEDA convener and State Finance and Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma banked on the D-voters issue plaguing a section of Bengali Hindu community in the Bodo belt and asserted that the present government at the Centre and in the State were working to resolve the issue and were committed to protect the interest of the people.

Addressing a gathering and campaigning for Khalingduar BTC constituency candidate Arjun Daimari in the Tangla Model School playground in Udalguri district on Monday, he reiterated the saffron party's commitment of forming a people-friendly government where every citizen would get benefits of welfare schemes. He further promised to resolve the drainage problem along with facilitating medical facilities at Tangla Community Health Centre (CHC) in the coming days.

"The Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) has been in power for the past 17 years in the region but the people have not received their due share of welfare schemes," he said. He further termed the BTC council polls as 'semi -final match' and claimed that the BJP would grab the Paneri LAC seat in the 2021 assembly polls. He urged the people of the Bodo belt to vote for the saffron party in the forthcoming BTC council polls and usher in a new dawn of prosperity and development.

Mangaldoi Lok Sabha MP Dilip Kumar Saikia, while addressing the gathering, said that the BJP was not in a pre-poll alliance with any party but was in an alliance with the citizens of the Bodo belt.

State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass stated that despite the Panchayat and Rural Development disbursing financial aid to women Self-Help Groups (SHG), the SHGs of the Bodo belt had complained of not receiving the same. He further assured of launching a strong fight against the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) if the BJP was voted to power in the council. Former Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur and Udalguri BJP president Kartik Chandra Boro also attended the event.
