BAKSA: Former MP of Rajya Sabha and senior politician Biswajit Daimary said that the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) would have to work for all castes and communities of Assam to gain acceptance of all ahead of the assembly election to be held in April.

"AJP is a new party. People have some expectations from the party. But, if the party works only for the Assamese community, it will be difficult for it to be embraced by the other communities of the State," Daimary said here at Tamulpur in the district of Baksa. Addressing some media persons, Daimary further said that although the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) emerged as the single largest party in the Bodoland Territorial Council elections, the BJP, United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) gained a firm footing in the Bodoland Territorial Region.

About the election prospects of the BJP's alliance, he said that the BJP and its allies would decide seat sharing taking into account the parties' position in different constituencies. "We will hold discussion with leaders of all alliance partners to decide seat sharing," Biswajit Daimary, who joined the BJP recently, said.

Biswajit Dainary is in the BJP core committee, election committee and advertisement committee. Asked about his candidature in the State Assembly elections, he said: "People will definitely want me as a candidate. But it is the party that will take a decision. As a BJP worker my role in the election will be to campaign and ensure victory of BJP candidates."

"The BJP has done a lot for the people of the country as well as for Assam over the last five years, irrespective of caste and community. It is a party that has for the first time assisted in building and conservation of naamghars (community prayer halls) in the State. Therefore, I am sure the people will give their mandate in favour of our party," Daimary said.
