Jamugurihat: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Padma Hazarika of Sootea Constituency has made an effort to transform the Morankuri village under Naduar block at Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district of Assam into a model village under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana' scheme.

MLA Hazarika aims to transform as many as 19 villages in around 19 Gaon panchayat in the Sootea Constituency into model villages.

A team of 16 jawans of 12th Assam Police Battalion, Kusumtola led by Commander Pranab Jyoti Goswami on Tuesday morning has started a 'Shramdan' programme and cleaning the roadsides of Morankuri village.

Visiting the at the Shramdan program MLA Hazarika said that the initiative taken by the jawans of the 12th Assam Police Battalion to enhance the beauty of Maranakuri village is commendable. He thanked the jawans' team for their help and support.

Hazarika said, "Even though not fully but I have succeeded in fulfilling the dreams of the villagers."

He further stated that his goal is to establish Maranakuri village into a model village along with other villages and to make it a centre of tourists' attraction.

Along with the 12th Assam Police Battalion jawans, villagers too joined them in the Shramdan programme.

The BJP leader further thanked the villagers for their constant support and urged the locals to continue to support so that with the occasion of Bhogali Bihu they can also see a new beautiful clean and healthy village. Hazarika stated that along with the Anchalik panchayat and Gaon panchayat he has also taken several initiatives under Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's "Swa-nirbhar Naari: Atmanirbhar Asom" scheme to empower the villages under Sootea Constituency economically and developing the villages from various sites.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on October 8, 2020 launched the "Swa-nirbhar Naari: Atmanirbhar Asom" scheme for empowering the economically disadvantaged women in the State.
