GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday attended a poll rally at Nazira to campaign in favour of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mayur Borgohain where he said that the BJP candidate fulfilled his poll promises with dedication. He said that BJP was synonymous to development, harmony and belief, stated a press release.
He said that taking everybody on board, the BJP-led State Government was able to complete its mandated five years term. He also said that following the principles of Swargadeo Chaulung Siu Ka Pha, the BJP government had been on its toes for strengthening the edifice of a harmonious and great Assam. Paying adequate respect to all the great people belonging to all caste, creed, community and ethnicity, the BJP-led government introduced awards in the name of the great personalities of the State. As a result, people of all communities felt belongingness and respect. Sonowal said that under the BJP government, all sections of people were secure.
Lambasting the Congress, Sonowal said that the party during its 60 years of rule created division among the people. Congress believed in the divisive policy. Creating divisions in the society and not allowing people to develop themselves had been the agenda of the Congress. On the other hand, the BJP believed in equal development, as the government led by the BJP worked relentlessly to create opportunities to flourish the hidden potential of the people.
Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Sonowal said that in the last 60 years, the Congress did not do anything substantial for the socio-economic and academic development of the people belonging to the tea community. However, the BJP government brought about complete overhaul in the development narrative of the tea garden communities. Along with infrastructural development like pavers roads in the tea garden areas, hospital and schools, the BJP government did its best to improve the conditions of the people of tea garden communities.
Stating that the present MLA of Nazira, in spite of getting ample opportunities, could not bring about any substantial change in the constituency, he said that Nazira was an important constituency where the headquarter of ONGC's Assam Asset was located and if the MLA of this constituency worked hard, people would be able to reap many benefits. He, therefore, requested the voters of Nazira constituency to cast their valuable votes in favour of BJP candidate Mayur Borgohain.
Sonowal also criticized the unholy alliance of the Congress and AIUDF. He said that the two parties brought illegal migrants to Assam and disturbed the pristine and undiluted culture and demography of the State. Sonowal said that the BJP, on the other hand, had been working to safeguard the interests of the indigenous people of the State. It is with this intention, the BJP-led government in the last five years distributed lakhs of pattas to the landless indigenous people of the state. He also said that giving financial grants to the namghars, xatras and Sahitya Sabhas had been the commitment of the BJP-led government for the development of indigenous people of the State. Earlier, Sonowal also attended big rallies and addressed the public in favour of the BJP candidates in Sadiya and Lahowal.
