KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Thursday reiterated that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's stand for protection of tribal land by giving land rights to non-protected class of people was not only dangerous for the indigenous tribal people but also violated the rule and land law of Assam.

In a statement, the president of the BJSM, Janaklal Basumatary said, "Land transaction in tribal belts and blocks is restricted for non-protected class of people; rather it is prohibited as tribal belts and blocks are considered prohibited protected areas. Permission from DC in districts of Assam and from Secretary (LR) in BTC is mandatory. No businessman can transact agricultural land without permission of the authority concerned as per provision of Assam land law. No land transaction by non-protected class of people in tribal belts and blocks is permitted."

He said that the Chief Minister should not violate the established rule to suit his convenience. "If the restricted rule is disobeyed, the status of tribal belts and blocks for protection of land rights of tribal people or weaker section people will vanish and land alienation from weaker section of people to stronger and advanced section of people will continue and the constitutional safeguard for tribal people will be denied."
