LAKHIMPUR: The third biennial session of the Swanab Sanjari Nwgwr regional unit of the United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) under Dhemaji district was held at Somokong Ranga Mancha with a day-long programme. The agenda of the event began with the unfurling of organizational flag by president Anil Boro. Smriti tarpan programme was conducted by vice-president Deepak Boro.
It was followed by the delegation meet of the organization, which was held under the chairmanship of the speaker Dhaneswar Mussahari. It was inaugurated by Dhemaji district UBPO president Dipankar Narzary. The delegation meeting formed the 28-member executive body of the Swanab Sanjari Nwgwar regional unit of the UBPO with Amin Boro as president, Dipak Boro, Sanjib Brahma Paniram Basumatary, Funkha Basumatary as vice-presidents and Sonaram Swargiyary as general secretary.
The open session of the event was inaugurated by UBPO founder president-cum-Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) chief Mihiniswar Basumatary. The open session was chaired by Anil Boro and it was held under the management of secretary Chandan Boro. Speaking on the occasion, Mihiniswar Basumatary called upon the people of the Bodo community to come forward to render their part for the all-round development of the community.
“At present, the Government of Assam has initiated steps for the notification, determination of the Bodo villages under BKWAC. It is seen that a section of people in the community, with greed for power and designation, has involved themselves in a conspiracy hatched to divide the Bodo people. They should refrain from indulging in such moves and community people should avoid them,” Mihiniswar Basumatary stated. He called upon all to point out the mistakes, if there is any, with regard to maintaining the BKWAC.
UBPO central committee president Manuranjan Basumatary graced the occasion as chief guest. He said that the BKWAC and UBPO, on September 12, held a crucial meeting with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding the notification of the Bodo villages under BKWAC, delimitation of the constituencies of the council concerned along with holding of the council election. He added that Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) speaker Biswajit Daimary, Education-cum-Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes (non-BTC) Affair Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu were also present in the meeting.
“The Chief Minister in the meeting instructed the authority concerned to make the first list of the Bodo villages under BKWAC with those villages outside BTAD which have faced no objections. The Government of Assam will initiate due steps later with regard to the remaining villages,” Manuranjan Basumatary added. He demanded the government at the Centre and in the State to implement the Third Bodo Peace Accord in letter and spirit.
In the meeting, Dhemaji district UBPO president Ratiram Basumatary, Dhemaji district ABWF adviser Shobharani Basumatary delivered lecture as appointed speakers. A number of dignitaries from almost all the Bodo frontal organizations attended the meeting as guests of honour.
