Kokrajhar: Leaders of different organizations of the Bodos and other tribal people on Wednesday expressed happiness at the fact that the Constitutional ST (Amendment) Order Bill, 2019 was not tabled in the Rajya Sabha session.

Many leaders posted on social media that it was just a step towards victory and there was no reason to celebrate as the government could take new initiative for political reason. No celebration was seen in BTC despite the Constitution ST (Amendment) Bill not being tabled in the Rajya Sabha.

Leaders of various tribal groups opined that all tribal organizations raised stiff opposition to the move to include six advanced and heterogeneous communities in the ST list and they called upon all to come forward in future too against the destructive policies of the government.

Former Lok Sabha MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary congratulated all for being able to resist the passage of the Constitution (ST order, 1950) (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Rajya Sabha on the concluding day of this session.

Meanwhile, the Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha and other tribal groups lifted the 12-hour Assam bandh opposing ST status to six communities after the Rajya Sabha dropped the ST (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday. The bandh was withdrawn at 1 pm.
