KOKRAJHAR: As in the previous years, the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), Kokrajhar district committee on Thursday felicitated the top 10 rank holders of Bodo medium who passed the HSLC examination, 2020 with highest marks, at a felicitation ceremony held at Bodofa House, Baganshali, Kokrajhar. The meritorious students are felicitated by the district and central committees of the ABSU annually since 2006 to inspire the students to pursue quality education. State rank holders are offered Rs 50,000 cash and citation.
Chaired by the president of the Kokrajhar district committee of ABSU, Janak Uzir, the felicitation ceremony was inaugurated by the assistant general secretary of the central committee of ABSU, Kwrwmdao Wary. He elaborated the vision of the ABSU for quality education through various programmes like Mission Quality Education, Education to all and career counselling for the students pursuing higher studies as well as cracking UPSC competitive examination. He said the result of the Bodo medium in HSLC was extremely poor due to various reasons but it was improving fast since the past one decade. He also said that there were many shortcomings in Bodo medium across Assam as the Bodo medium schools were neglected by the State Government. He also lamented that venture Bodo medium schools were not provincialized, textbooks not distributed on time, teachers were not adequate, Science and Mathematics teachers were not appointed and separate directorate for Bodo medium was yet to be started. Wary said the ABSU had been trying hard to overcome all the hurdles of Bodo medium. He called upon the guardians to take care of their children to avail quality education and informed about the admission process during the ongoing lockdown.
Dr. Indira Boro, Head of the Department of Bodo, Bodoland University (BU), ceremonially handed over the citation to top 10 rank holders in Bodo medium after felicitating them with traditional Aronai. Dr Boro congratulated the students and urged them to move ahead with their aims and dreams.
The felicitation ceremony was also addressed by the Director of UN Academy, Kokrajhar, Krishna Gopal Basumatary and was attended by other guests.
