KOKRAJHAR: Bodo Science Society (BSS), a new non- political platform with headquarters at Sonaighuli in Guwahati was formed recently by a group of dedicated academicians, researchers and students of science with an aim to bridge the gap between the scientific knowledge and the rich cultural tapestry of the Bodo community.
The Bodo Science Society was formed with Prof. Khagen Basumatary from Guwahati Ayurvedic College and Hospital as the president, Dr. Kamal Kumar Brahma, Principal of Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Kokrajhar (BBEC) and Dr. Himalay Basumatary, DRDO as vice presidents while Dr. Diganta Narzary of Gauhati University became the general secretary with Dr. Rachan Daimary of Manipal University of Jaipur and Bibi Prasad Brahma of Harinaguri HE School, Kokrajhar as secretaries. Dr. Ponnala Vimal Mosahari of NCET, Agra and Dr. Tarun Kumar Basumatary of Cotton University, Guwahati become the publicity secretary and treasurer respectively. Besides, the new organization has 10 executive members from various universities and colleges including the DRDO.
A distinguished group of advisers of the Bodo Science Society included Prof. Ganesh C. Wary Pro Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Prof. Nirala Ramchiary of JNU, New Delhi, Prof. Binoy Basumatary, retired professor and Anjalee Basumatary, associate professor of Kokrajhar Governemnt College. As per sources, the BSS is officially on its way to being registered under the Registration of Society Act XXI of 1860. This landmark initiative is driven by a commitment to promoting scientific awareness, preserving traditional knowledge, and fostering academic excellence in the Bodo language.
In a statement, the publicity secretary of newly formed organization Dr. Ponnala Vimal Mosahari, Dean of Academics of Neelam College of Engineering and Technology (NCET), Agra said the aims and objectives of the society was to disseminate scientific knowledge and create awareness in Bodo language, to conduct research and development activities on Bodo traditional knowledge, to motivate school students towards science subjects, to assist Bodo medium students in understanding science subjects, to eradicate superstitions, blind beliefs, and witch-hunting from Bodo society, to raise awareness about health and hygiene among the common people, to translate science terminologies and books into the Bodo language and to conduct all-round developmental activities in science for a better future.
Mosahari said, “We envision a future where scientific knowledge seamlessly integrates with our cultural roots. The Bodo Science Society is committed to fostering curiosity, promoting education, and dispelling myths for the betterment of our community. Language, as a powerful tool for communication, plays a pivotal role in our mission at the Bodo Science Society. Translating scientific knowledge into Bodo not only makes it accessible but also celebrates the unique linguistic identity of the Bodo people. Our effort will be to serve as a bridge, connecting tradition with modernity, as we strive to enrich our community through the fusion of cultural heritage and scientific. He also said the Bodo Science Society was looking forward to a year filled with impactful initiatives, collaborative efforts, and strides towards a scientifically enriched and culturally vibrant future.
