Kokrajhar: Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Friday made it clear that they have again determined to go for legal redressal of ST certificate of Naba Kumar Sarania who, again won from Kokrajhar reserved ST seat.

In a statement, the president of the BJSM, Janaklal Basumatary said the Mancha accepted the people’s mandate in the recently concluded national parliamentary election as a believer in democracy but cannot accept the win of Naba Kumar Sarania in Kokrajhar ST reserved parliamentary constituency because he was not a person of Schedule Tribe community. He said Assam govt. had admitted that he belonged to Sarania community which is not recognized as schedule tribe and so he has obtained ST certificate by declaring himself as belonging to Borokachari community by allegedly cheating the certificate issuing authority because Borokachari is recognized Schedule Tribe in plains of Assam whereas Naba Kumar Sarania belongs to neither Borokachari nor Kachari.

Basumatary said as per land record of his father’s jamabandi in DC, Baksa office, his father and mother belonged to Sarukoch which means Koch community and in his legacy data also his father, grand, grandfathers and uncle, grand , grand uncle’s are Sarukoch means Koch. None of them are Borokachari or Kachari. Koch is not recognized as schedule tribe in Assam. They are OBC recognized.

Basumatary said, “We do not accept him as the schedule tribe representative in the ST reserved constituency. He is representing Oboro means non-boro or non-tribal communities. By his anti-tribal community and tribal institution activities, he clearly exposed himself that he is not tribal and belong to non-boro, non-tribal community.

Thus his win in tribal reserved constituency is not acceptable for BJSM,” he said adding that this time they will go for legal redressal with foolproof.
