GUWAHATI: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), a sixth schedule council, participated in “World Food India” for the first time, held recently, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of Food Processing Industries and the Minister of Commerce & Industry, the event is regarded as one of the biggest and most spectacular in the nation’s food sector. Over 80 international delegates attended the event’s multiple sessions, which included a CEO round table, B2B meetings, and more. Leading companies including Zydus Wellness, MTR Foods, Amul, Nestle India, and ITC Limited, participated actively and displayed their packaged food products to the world.

EM (Executive Member) for Agriculture, BTC, Ghansyam Das, expressed his happiness and noted that the event provided numerous opportunities to adapt some of them for implementation in BTC’s food processing division after interacting with a variety of industry professionals from the machinery business to the food packaging industry. He believed that via innovation and technology, foreign nations like Japan, Korea, Vietnam, the Netherlands, and others that had food baskets to show at their pavilion had made advancements in the food processing industry. There is still a long way to go for BTC, and the Department of Agriculture will put in place a people-friendly strategy in the food processing industry that will boost local economic growth. Department representatives, OSD Agriculture, BTC, Manoranjan Das, and Pushpadhar Das Kachary joined him at the event. He also thanked the CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro for giving his team the opportunity to take part on the global stage.

BTC had an exclusive stall of its own at the 2nd edition of WFI and was represented by a BTR development fellowship Agri & Allied team led by Penenjit Daimari,and two FPCs from Kokrajhar & Chirang District. Napolean Kerketta, Gelak Saring, and Carolyn Changsan representing Agri & Allied also attended the event. There were 22 processed food products on display at the exhibit; visitors expressed interest in Cordyceps Mushroom, Assam lemon, dragon fruit, wild honey, mushroom-based food products, and ginger powder. By showcasing, establishing connections and building networks with many exhibitors and prominent figures in the sector, the members made a significant marking presenting BTC’s processed food product to the global audience. The learning that we gained from the event was eye-opening for us and gave us a sense that food processing is the future in order to minimize the wastage of farmers. The event also gave opportunities for BTC to collaborate with other stakeholders as stated by Penenjit Daimari, stated a press release.
