The VC of BU, Singh has captured headlines many times for his alleged corruption and monopolistic approach in the functioning of the premier institution on several occasions. The fleeing of VC from the higher educational institution has become a major cause of concern in the state and the region.

A team of Special Vigilance Cell of the Chief Minister had arrested VC of Bodoland University Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh recently for his severe corruption cases. The vigilance cell had taken away as many as nine official files from the office chamber of Singh for investigation but with his best capacity, the VC has obtained anticipatory bail very shortly after the arrest and he is performing official work of BU despite being arrested.

The ABSU, Kokrajhar district committee staged a protest in front of Bodoland University on Thursday demanding immediate removal of VC Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh and appointment of a new VC. The agitated ABSU activists shouted slogans against the misdeeds and monopolistic approach of VC.

He said VC Singh was one of the most corrupt officers who has been playing with the growth of Bodoland University and the future of students of Bodoland region. He said he had committed many corruptions from constructions to appointment and academic section. The ABSU has been demanding removal of Singh from BU and approached the Chancellor and the Governor of Assam for his intervention for appointment of new VC, he said adding that it was a matter of concern as to how an arrested accused officer can continue to work in office with anticipatory bail. He also demanded stringent action as per law.

ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary also said VC of BU Prof. Singh was involved in gross anomalies in BU affairs. He said Singh was involved in corruption of various construction works and appointment of officers and other employees in the varsity. He also said Singh and the Controller of examination of the university used to accord a contract of preparing examinations to the parties of outside state and appropriated funds. He further said the ABSU will not tolerate the playing with future of the students as many colleges are under BU. He warned that ABSU will not remain silent if the government fails to take action on corrupt officers.

Basumatary demanded that the government of Assam should take appropriate measures and remove him from BU and also demanded that the Assam Governor and Chancellor of the varsity should send new and efficient VC within seven days. He further said ABSU had been demanding his removal from the past and arrested accused on anticipatory bail should not be allowed to function in BU.

Meanwhile, the Registrar of Bodoland University Dr. Subung Basumatary while talking to media persons in his chamber on Thursday said they had no idea about the arrest of VC Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh by Anti Vigilance Cell of Chief Minister but came to know when the investigation team came to university and took away nine official files for investigation.
