SIVASAGAR: The body of a newborn baby was found in the yard of the house of a wage earner in the village of Singaritali on the outskirts of Sonari town in Charaideo district.

According to sources, the incident took place on Tuesday in the Singaritali village, where the wife of Rupan Gogoi was found digging a hole in the yard of the house and then laid firewood after covering up the hole. This created suspicion among the locals and after clearing the firewood and soil, they recovered the body of a newborn baby. When enquired about this, the woman revealed that she had given birth to a dead baby and so she buried the baby. On the other hand, her husband Rupan Gogoi expressed ignorance about the fact that his wife was pregnant.

Though the dead baby was later buried on the bank of Towkak river, the matter came to the notice of the police, who took the couple into their custody and initiated an investigation into the matter.
