BARPETA: Along with the rest of the State, Bohag Bihu was also celebrated at Barpeta Xatra with Xatriya tradition. At Barpeta Xatra during the time of Bihu along with the regular fourteen Prasangas, Gayan Bayan, Ojapali, Ghosas were also conducted. Here Bohag Bihu started from the last day of Chot and till 6th of Bohag it is celebrated. Friday was the last day and it is called Naam Domahi and Thiyanaam by the devotees which is the main attraction of this day.

Hundreds of devotees performed Thiyanaam in front of the main gate of Barpeta called Dalan ( also called Korapaat). There are three xarais for three main (thul) hatis — Thul Dakshin hati, Thul Nahati and Thul Uttarhati. The devotees of Barpeta performed Thiyanaam for the wellbeing of the people.

Later, the devotees entered the kirtan ghor singing Ghosas. There is also a tradition of offering sugar, jaggery and fennel seeds (guwamuri) in the three xarais. The devotees of hatis bowed their heads at Mothor Chotal by singing ghosas and Prarthana ( prayer). Later the devotees distributed the sugar, jaggery and fennel seeds ( guwamuri) among all the devotees of the hatis. In this way Bohag bihu ended at Barpeta Xatra traditionally.
