BOKAJAN: A 50-year old doctor has been booked by Bokajan Police on charges of alleged physical misconduct with a 19-year old female patient at Bokajan in East Karbi Anglong on Wednesday. The complainant went to the doctor for a check-up, complaining about cough and flu. "The doctor was alone in his chamber and touched the girl in an inappropriate manner. He also made physical advances on her on the pretext of doing medical examination. The girl resisted and alerted other staff of the hospital who informed us about the incident," a police officer said.

"As per the standard medical regulations, a female attendant/staff is a necessary requisite while performing any physical examination of a female patient. However, this was not followed and the doctor has also admitted to have committed this offence. A case under sections 354 of Indian People Code has been registered against the doctor and he would be produced in the court of the SDJM, Bokajan on Thursday," the officer added.
