BONGAIGAON: There is fear and panic among people of several places of Bongaigaon like Boitamari and Paulpara due to the rumour of 'black people' which has been doing the rounds since the past few days.

The Bongaigaon district administration appealed to people in Bongaigaon town through miking not to panic because this was only a rumour. The police also appealed to people not to take it seriously.

As per instruction of Dr. M S Lakshmi Priya, Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon, a meeting was held by Partha Sarathi Jahari, SDO (C), North Salmara with the people of Boitamari Revenue Circle in presence of Nitumoni Das, Subdivisional Police Officer, North Salmara and Sujata Goswami, Circle Officer, Boitamari, at Boitamari regarding the rumoured 'black people' in and around Boitamari. After discussion with the people, an action plan was decided to hold awareness programmes with the village people at Dhantola Bazar, Nityo Bazar, Dhaknabari Bazar, Beerpara and Pasagaon Chariali. Police officials have sensitized the VDPs to stay alert and maintain strict vigilance to prevent any untoward incident in the upcoming days.

On the other hand, Pallab Jyoti Nath, Circle Officer, Srijangram also conducted a meeting in the Mererchar Thana premises with VDPs and leading citizens regarding the rumour of 'black people'. He instructed VDPs to maintain strict vigil and the police to do night patrolling.
