Bongaigaon Police Arrests Hindu Imposter Faking As Islamic Preacher

NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident of faking religious identity that has come to the fore in Assam's Bongaigaon, the local police upon suspicion arrested a Hindu man from Uttar Pradesh.

The unscrupulous person who has been collecting money from some locals who are naïve and superstitious people was faking his identity as an Islamic preacher. The person has been arrested by police at Bongaigaon.

Reportedly, the person has been identified as one Ramesh from Uttar Pradesh, who had been for sometime faking his true identity while introducing himself as Maulavi Mahammad Siddiqui to the locals.

As per the locals, he collected money from them for some days on the pretext of conducting Islamic religious prayers.

In order to fool the naïve locals, Ramesh, the imposter also donned Islamic religious attire when he went to collect money.

The matter came to the fore when some local people started suspecting him as his religious conduct differed from that of Islamic teachings.

As per reports, the locals apprehended the imposter and informed the police. The local police arrested him and during the interrogation, he revealed his identity.

According to sources, the Bongaigaon police are suspecting that Ramesh might not be acting alone and that more such imposters may be present in the district.

In another bizarre incident, a rumour is spreading like wildfire regarding an imaginary 'black man' who is attacking the people of the district. This rumour has resulted in creating a mass hysteria in some parts of Bongaigaon. Both the police and civil administration have been trying their best to shun away from any such paranoia amongst the minds of the people, while deploying regular petrol units to apprehend any suspect, if it actually exists.
