BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon police have stepped up their action against illegal liquor. During the last 24 hours, police conducted raids in several places of the district and destroyed them besides seizing a huge amount of illegal liquor.

In the evening of July 13, Police along with the Excise department conducted a raid jointly in a house of New Bongaigaon; and, destroyed approximately 370 kg of fermented and 50 litres of illicit local liquor.

In another raid conducted based on a tipoff, a team of Bongaigaon Police Station along with IC of North Bongaigaon P.P led by OC Bongaigaon Police Station conducted raids and search operations at the Chaprakata area of Bongaigaon near the Punjabi Dhaba; and seized 20 numbers of IMFL of various brands from the shop of Manikanta Das. they also apprehended two persons from the shop. The persons are Bikash Adhikari (18yrs) son of Sambaru Adhikari, Rangapani Village under Mererchar Police Station in Bongaigaon district; and Ujjal Das (25yrs) son of Manikanta Das, resident of Popragaon Village under Bongaigaon Police Station.

On Wednesday, drives against illicit liquor were conducted at Malipara, Sutradhar para, Ravapara and Garudokan. During these operations, around 300 kg of fermented wash and 100 litres of liquid liquor were destroyed.

Talking to the media, Bongaigaon SP Swapnaneel Deka said that the police will continue the drives against illegal liquor. "Our target is to make Bongaigaon district free from illegal liquor and we shall continue till the objective is met," added the Superintendent of Police.
