Guwahati: Hailing from the district of Lakhimpur, Assam, Bornali Gogoi is the first woman from the state to be commissioned as the wing commander of Indian Air Force (IAF).

She joined the IAF on May 27, 1996, as a pilot officer. Later, she was promoted to flying officer and flying lieutenant. It is recently that Gogoi got promoted as the wing commander of the IAF.

Back in 1985, Gogoi bagged the 16th position in her matriculation exams. She completed her higher secondary from Cotton College, Guwahati. Gogoi pursued engineering in the branch of Electronics and Telecommunication from Assam Engineering College. She passed the course with flying colours as she secured first class first position.

Later, she completed her M.Tech degree from Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
