Brazen Daylight Theft: Miscreants Snatch Woman's Necklace in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: In a daring daylight theft, two individuals riding a motorcycle targeted a woman in the Balipara area of Maligaon, Guwahati city, and forcibly snatched a necklace from her neck on Tuesday.

Shaken by the incident, the victim wasted no time and promptly reported the theft to the Jalukbari Police Station, providing details of the crime.

Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this audacious theft. Further updates on the ongoing investigation are awaited.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, a Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) team from Chandmari Police Station apprehended a person named Abhijit Das (28) of Barpeta after he was caught red-handed while on the run after stealing two mobile phones. Legal action has been initiated.

In a similar shocking act of theft in broad daylight last month, a bold bike-borne thief targeted Guwahati's recently inaugurated Nilachal flyover, making off with numerous lights that adorned the structure. Guwahati's Nilachal flyover, inaugurated just last month, had boasted state-of-the-art lighting installations that illuminated the structure at night, impressing both local residents and authorities. However, the audacious act of theft left the community stunned.

A resident captured the thief's brazen act on video, showing the biker deftly dismounting a light fixture and loading it onto his motorcycle. Sources indicate that the contractor responsible for the flyover had initially installed 1,300 lights during its inauguration, but a startling 600 of them have already been stolen. In response to the thefts, a formal complaint was lodged, leading to the subsequent arrest of three suspected thieves by the police. Nevertheless, this recent incident of theft underscores the ongoing challenge of deterring such criminals in the area. In other news, the Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) authority has sacked a total of 70 homeguard personnel from discharging duties in the medical institution by making them totally jobless.

The anti-employment decision taken by the LMCH authority in this regard seems to be a cheer mockery to the Chief Minister, who declared that the homeguard personnel of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts would be engaged in the said medical institution so that they could earn the bread for their families. But the latest move taken by the LMCH authority has made the Chief Minister’s declaration utterly meaningless.
