MANGALDAI: Much to the relief to the flood-affected villagers of 29 villages in Darrang, the Water Resources Department, as per the assurance of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, has completed the repair works of the breached stretch of 300 feet of the embankment of Saktola River at Keotpara village in Dahi Mouza of Darrang district.
The Chief Minister during his visit to the breached stretch of the embankment on July 23, had assured the villagers to complete the repair works within a week and accordingly instructed the Water Resources Department. The department, under the continued supervision and presence of Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das, started the repair work on a war footing and completed it within five days of the visit of the Chief Minister.
Following the breach of the embankment due to the unprecedented three waves of flood, the villagers of the 29 villages had to face the wrath of floods. On the very night of the breach of the embankment, legislator Guru Jyoti Das and Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah took personal initiative to repair the breached portion with the help of the villagers and also geared up the Water Resource Department.
