GUWAHATI:
Tamulpur has been proposed by the Assam Government to become a new district in the state of Assam.
This major initiative has been undertaken by the government as a crucial step towards facilitating good governance in the state.
The creation of the new district of Tamulpur will further improve economic activity and aid in better administrative control.
Tamulpur is currently a subdivision of Baksa district under the BTC. The existing four districts under the BTC are—Kokrajhar, Chirang, Udalguri and Baksa.
The talks of the decision to grant Tamulpur as a separate district has been ongoing for a long time.
"We will create Tamulpur district. Tamulpur district will include Darangajuli, Goibari, Nagrijuli and Suklai Serfang constituencies of the BTC. There will be five districts in BTC. Currently there are four districts under the BTC," stated CM Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing an election rally at Ghagrachowk of Tamulpur last year.
"A medical college will be established at Tamulpur and a new bridge over the Pagladia will be constructed. There will be a government college at Tamulpur with Science, Arts and Commerce streams. A stadium will also be constructed," Sarma added.
