GORESWAR/TAMULPUR: A police jawan was killed when an escort vehicle of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro met with an accident at around 11 pm on Tuesday night at Eghara Mile Chowk in Tamulpur district. Two other police personnel and the driver of the vehicle were seriously injured in the accident. The deceased police jawan has been identified as Raju Kalita (33) of Barkhanajan village in Nalbari district.

The two injured police personnel have been identified as Brajen Rajbangshi from Ghopa village in Tihu; Utpal Patgiri, a resident of Patacharkuchi, and the driver of the vehicle, Praksh Boro from Deulkuchi village in Kamrup district.

The accident had took place when last night BTC chief Pramod Boro was returning to Rangia from Mazbat and was heading towards Rangia via the Bhutan-Tamulpur road. The ill-fated escort vehicle was at the end of the BTC chief's convoy. When the vehicle reached Eghara Mile Chowk, the vehicle lost control.

Receiving the information, Pramod Boro returned back to the spot. A police team led by Tamulpur district Superintendent of Police Pankaj Yadav also rushed to the spot. The BTC chief and the police team immediately took all the injured persons to Swasti Hospital of Rangia.

Unfortunately, Raju Kalita later breathed his last in the hospital. The other three who were seriously injured were sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for better treatment after providing first aid at Rangia.

BTC chief Pramod Boro expressed his deep sorrow over the accident. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of police jawan Raju Kalita and extended his condolences to the bereaved family. Boro also wished the three injured policemen a speedy recovery.
