KOKRAJHAR: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro on Monday suddenly visited Champamati irrigaton project (Major) along Kokrajhar-Chirang border to supervise its operation to irrigate waters to farmers. He was accompanied by EM of Irrigation, BTC Diganta Baruagh and other high officials.

Talking to a section of mediapersons, Boro said that providing proper irrigation facility to the farmers was one of the prime objectives of the BTC government. He said that his government had assured the farmers of the region to provide proper irrigation system and to enhance the production twice a year. He said that the Champamati irrigation project had been discharging water to paddy fields in western canal but many farmers were facing problems getting the water in eastern canal due to the hydro power project that consumes maximum water of the canal.

Boro said that the Hayen Hydel Power Project with capacity of generating 4 MW power had been operating from the eastern canal with only 1.5 MW. He alleged that the power project had not been paying tax to BTC and as per agreement, the company had to provide free electricity in 1 km radius in the locality but nothing had been done till today. He also said that the company had not utilized the Social Responsibility Fund (CSR). He also said that the government could not allow such a company to operate. He further said that they would call the company owners to come for discussion with the council administration.
