KOKRAJHAR: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro on Friday paid homage to Charan Narzary, a great tribal political icon, educationist, litterateur of the Bodos on the occasion of his second death anniversary. Narzary, the founder secretary of Plains Tribal Council of Assam (PTCA) and former MP who represented Kokrajhar east assembly constituency several times, passed away on July 23, 2019.

The CEM of BTC expressed his sincere gratitude and homage to the great genius and remembered his contributions in the field of tribal politics and literature. Charan Narzary was an icon of tribal politics. He was elected Member of Legislative Assembly in Assam from Kokrajhar East constituency for two terms in 1972 and 1985 respectively. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kokrajhar in 1977 as an independent MP and he endeavoured to highlight the grievances of the tribal people of Assam in the Parliament. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared that Assam should be formed on federal basis according to the reorganization of states. On this basis, the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) was formed on February 16, 1967. The political party was formed, namely Plains Tribal Council of Assam, under the active initiative of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on February 27, 1967.

Apart from this, he was a great orator, a philosopher, recipient of the 'Man of the Year -2014' award from Engkhong Welfare Society, and a freelance journalist.
