BTC EM Dharma Narayan Das receives honorary doctorate degree in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Executive Member for Tourism department, Dharma Narayan Das has been conferred honorary doctorate from the University of America for his tremendous services towards socio-economic uplift in remote areas in Baksa district.

Das, who is graduated from Sainik School of Goalpara, started his small tea plantation initiative in 2008 at his Kumarikhata along the remote areas in Baksa district and now the small tea grower's number has increased to 350 across the entire Baksa district and over 10,000 people are earning their living through the tea plantation crops. He is a former State government employee who later he resigned from his job to serve people.

Das was first elected to the Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly in 2015 from Kumarikhata constituency and elected for second consecutive term in 2020. The University of America conferred the honorary doctorate on November 24 to Das for tremendous service in encouraging livelihood earnings among the society.

Professor from University of America, Dr Madhu Krishnan handed over the honorary doctorate to Das. Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar, Das expressed his excitement after receiving the honorary doctorate saying that he was happy with the recognition.
