BTC Excise Bill passed in the vote on account Budget session

KOKRAJHAR: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) legislative assembly on Wednesday passed the Bodoland Territorial Council Excise Bill, 2019, while BTC Speaker Tridiv Daimary announced the names of the members of the Panel of Chairmen under Rule 9 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in BTC. There was no other business except passing the BTC Excise Bill.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary and his deputy Kampa Borgoyary were absent. Only nine Executive Members of the council were present while many MCLAs from the ruling party and opposition remained absent. The opposition leader Rwngwra Narzary was also not present on the last day. The assembly session was supposed to be held at 10 am but today it was late by 15 minutes. The session lasted for an hour.

Later talking to reporters, the EM of BTC Lwmsrao Daimary said this was the last assembly session of their tenure as the new executive council would be formed after the 4th BTC election slated to be held within mid-April. He thanked BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary for his able leadership and the opposition members for playing a positive role for the greater interest of the development of council.

The MCLA from opposition, Jyatirindra Brahma said they were not happy in the last assembly session due to the absence of the BTC chief and deputy chief as there were many important issues to discuss. He said in the last five years they played the role of positive opposition for the greater interest of the implementation of developmental schemes in the region. He said the council administration had certain shortcomings which should be taken as a lesson for rectification. He wished that they would come back and meet together after the council general election.

Meanwhile, the Executive Member of BTC, Doneswar Goyary, on behalf of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, presented the Vote on Account budget amounting to Rs. 569.04 crore for three months from April to July in the year 2020-21, on Tuesday. The vote on account, which has been presented, will cover the necessary expenditures of the first three- four months till the full budget is passed.
